Scout’s Story
It’s hard to believe that two months have passed since our daughter, Scout, underwent a 10 hour surgery to remove cancerous tumors in her liver and pelvis. After almost a year of treatment, Scout was finally given the opportunity to have surgery to remove the tumors and take the next steps in her process of fighting cancer. Two weeks after her surgery we arrived back home and Scout would turn 2 the following day. The day after Scout’s birthday, on May 8th, we would drive to the cancer clinic and be informed that Scout’s cancer was being placed into remission and that there was no current malignancy in her body.
The past two months have been filled with joy as well as a lot of uncertainty. We have finally reached the position in Scout’s battle that we have so longed for. Our two main goals have been getting Scout to the point where she would be a candidate for surgery and then ultimately getting her into remission. What I didn’t expect was the stress that would still loom even after we had reached our goals. This horrible disease is unfortunately just now part of us and always will be.
While we push forward towards regaining some normalcy, our main objective in life now is to have Scout live a normal, healthy life, with hopefully no long term side effects from chemo and limiting our thoughts of this disease ever returning. Scout has endured things that very few will ever know, but my wife and I are so proud of her and are so grateful that Scout has reached a point in her battle that so many other kids unfortunately never will. Our days will forever be filled with love and joy, as we cherish every moment that we have with Scout.
Scout’s Day at Quail Hill Community Park
Today was another day that our family enjoyed doing one of our favorite things. Hanging out in the city of Irvine at a few of their many great parks. Our last stop of the day before heading home to get Scout her nap, would be Quail Hill Community Park. Quail Hill is not your typical park, but I absolutely love it. Instead of your typical playground equipment, small climbing nets and rock arches and logs are present. We didn’t spend a ton of time here but it was a great place to let Scout explore for about a half hour. Her favorite thing was climbing around on the snake sculpture (she loves snakes right now) and crawling in and out of the tree branch tunnel.
While this isn’t a park that I would imagine spending a ton of time at, it’s surely a cool park that will offer kids a change of pace from the more traditional playgrounds they are more accustomed to.
