Overview
Recently I have become aware of the amazingness that many public libraries have to offer. Admittedly, libraries are a place that I have rather seldom visited over my years of life. Now that I have a little child, I’ve branched out a little bit and have been rather shocked to learn how cool and entertaining so many libraries are, with especially unique and fun areas for children.
Placentia Library is a great example of the fantastic children’s play spaces within our public libraries. It is also one of our families new favorite libraries to visit.
Scout’s Story
Placentia Library has one of the nicer children’s sections of any library that our family has visited. Visiting here had never been on our radar, but our daughter, Scout, has been being treated at the cancer clinic in Anaheim for a little over a year and the Placentia Library just so happens to be right down the street, which is what made us stop here. Scout had blood draws on this Monday, so we decided to stop and check a few books out beforehand.
We were unaware of the play time that the library holds every Monday from 10-12. However, we were pleasantly surprised by it. The kids corner area has a fire station, bank, farmers market and diner that the library outfits with toys and other accessories every Monday morning for kids to indulge in interactive play.
Fake fruits and kitchenware adorn the farmers market and diner.
Kids are also able to dress up as fire fighters in the fire station among numerous other things.
A reading area is also present in the children’s section and the library outfits multiple tables with books and small toys.
While our family wasn’t planning to spend as much time here as we ultimately ended up spending, we had a great time talking with a few of the other parents. We were excited to find out about the Monday play time and I am sure we will be back soon. Our morning ended in a very humbling and somewhat embarrassing fashion as Scout did not want to leave to head to the hospital and my wife and I were relegated to carrying a screaming two year old out of the library. We are just incredibly happy to have Scout done with active cancer treatment and to be reincorporating her to being around other kids.
