Overview
Pikes Peak Park is a fantastic park located in the equestrian town of Norco, also known to many as “Horsetown USA”. This sprawling park features two separate, huge lawn areas, a basketball court and a horseshoe pit. The main attraction is the farm themed playground with a plethora of slides and different areas for kids to play. The playground has a farm structure and a town structure that includes a general store sprinkled in with lots of different equipment. The park can get pretty busy and the parking lot does often fill up. The very popular “pumpkin rock” hike starts just down the street at the equestrian center and people will often use this parking lot for that hike as well. This is a great family park and it is easy to spend a good chunk of the day here.

Scout’s Story
After spending the morning at the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center, my wife and I made the short drive with our daughter, Scout, to Norco and Pikes Peak Park. Our daughter, Scout, was now 13 months old and was still adapting to walking. Scout was slowly getting more and more comfortable with tossing herself down slides and crawling up the playground structures. Scout spent most of her time running around the mulch area before making her way to the baby swings like she always does.
One thing we didn’t realize before visiting was that this was where the “pumpkin rock” hike was. I had seen family members post pictures of it and when I looked up and saw the orange rock in the distance, I was surprised. After spending a short time at the playground we decided to go ahead and take the short walk up to the rock. Despite it being June and rather hot, it was a perfect day to hike and there was no one else on the trail. The trail can get insanely crowded in October so it was nice to take a short walk and be able to feel a sense of solitude in a place that I wasn’t expecting to. Pikes Peak Park offers a lot to do and the surrounding area and city is very relaxing. This was a great place to spend the afternoon
