Overview
Tucked into the back of a nice residential neighborhood, Nicolas Road park is a small 3 acre, pirate themed park. Originally dedicated in October of 1995, this park located in Temecula, was renovated in 2017 with its new pirate theme. Although small, the park boasts a huge lawn area and a half basketball court, with barbecues and picnic tables. The playgrounds main attraction is its pirate ship but also offers other things to enhance kids imaginations, such as a pirate chest with gold coins and pearls, along with cannons and rock walks with caves. The play equipment on the pirate ship is challenging and aimed towards kids capable of climbing and playing without supervision. The park is beautiful and the shaded tree area by the street parking draws you in upon arriving.

Scout’s Story
Having planned a weekend trip to Borrego Springs, my wife and I decided that Temecula would be a great place to stop along the way and take a rest with our daughter, Scout. The typical heat of August had arrived and temperatures were nearing 100 degrees. After stopping at the Eagle Soar splash pad, we made our way to Nicolas Road Park. Despite it being a Saturday, the park only had one other family present. The pirate ship themed playground was super neat to see but with Scout only being 14 months old, the equipment on the pirate ship was well beyond her capabilities. She played at the pirate chest and climbed on the rock walls for some time and generally just had a blast carrying her wiffle ball around and running through the mulch.
We had a great time and were very impressed by the park. These memories and pictures, are always so important for me to look back on. Barely three weeks later, Scout would be diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and her long fight with this horrible disease would start. While it’s hard looking back on these pictures knowing that something was already wrong with Scout, the smile and joy that she has always exuded, is personified in every moment of this day. Scout’s battle and story are ongoing and we are currently very hopeful and await the day that we can hear the word remission.
