Overview

Located in the beautiful city of Laguna Niguel, Main Beach Park and playground is a small but fabulous area to spend a few hours. Although parking can be a little tricky at times, with metered street parking being the only option, the location of the park is phenomenal. Located directly off of highway 1, you can’t miss the park with the shops and restaurants that encircle the nearby streets. The playground sits directly in front of a wooden boardwalk fronting the beach. The playgrounds theme is ocean awareness and safety themed with an original lifeguard tower serving as the main play structure.

Signs around the playground teach kids about the tide pools and animals that live in them and about basic ocean safety. In addition, during low tide, there are some great tide pools to check out just down from the beach area.

Scout’s Day at Main Beach Park

As the summer was just getting started, we decided to take advantage of the unseasonably nice weather. The next day, our daughter, Scout, would be having yet another surgical procedure and we wanted to take her to enjoy this day before what we knew what be a tough next day for her. We had been waiting for a good day to visit the pirate tower in Laguna Beach. The low tide lined up with the early hours of the morning and we headed out for Victoria Beach in Laguna. My family absolutely loves Laguna and my wife and I decided that we would just make a day of hanging out here and taking Scout to some parks after visiting the pirate tower.

After leaving Victoria Beach, we drove barely five minutes to Main Beach Park. The cool thing about Main Beach Park is that those that are in a group, can break up. Those wanting to check out the shops can do so, while the others in the group can go to the beach or playground. After finding street parking, I could only find enough change for about 20 minutes of parking time. We hurried over to the park and let Scout play for more than our meter time was covered and hoped not to return to a ticket. Scout, again played on every piece of the equipment.

Despite being small, the playground has enough to keep kids involved for awhile. Finally, in fear of getting a ticket, we headed back to our car and set off for bluebird park.

Scout’s Story

This was another special day for us. Just being able to be outside and enjoy these moments is beyond description. Exactly one month ago on May 8th, Scout’s cancer was declared in remission. Scout underwent a tumor resection surgery on her liver and pelvic area on April 24th. On May 5th, we arrived home from the hospital and on May 7th Scout turned 2. The day after her birthday, Scout’s cancer would be declared in remission. This journey, from the onset of her stage 4 diagnosis almost a year ago, has been such a life altering experience.

We know Scout’s battle isn’t quite over but we are also hopeful that Scout is nearing the tail end of this fight. In addition to all of the other good news, this was officially our last day of doing twice daily injections into Scouts leg. The following day Scout would be going into surgery to have her central line removed from her chest. This also meant no more daily flushing of her lines and that within a week she would be able to finally get back in the water and to get wet. So much has happened, so fast, but we are excited to move forward and watch Scout grow, without having to deal with this debilitating disease.
