Overview
There are so many, fabulous, family friendly things to do in the fantastic city of Santa Barbara. From the absolutely incredible Natural History Museum, to the Moxi Museum and Santa Barbara Zoo. There are just so many things here to experience. However, one of the best and absolute not-miss attractions, for families, is the insane “Kids World” playground at Alameda Park. This is a truly enchanting place for kids. This is one of the most spectacular playgrounds that our family has ever visited and I am sure that all who visit here will agree.

The main feature is a stunning, expansive wooden Castle. Be prepared if you visit because your kids will not want to leave. This is undoubtedly one of the best playgrounds in all of California and the country as these wooden playgrounds continue to dwindle in favor of more modern, longer lasting, plastic playground structures. Hopefully the city will continue to care for this playground and the community and kids can enjoy for years to come.

Scout’s Story
Santa Barbara is such a fabulous place, and our family has loved visiting this town for years now. Before we had our daughter Scout, it wasn’t quite as appealing to me, personally, but now that I have a young child, I love it here. The options of museums and family friendly things are never ending. Oh, and the Kids World Castle Playground at Alameda Park is one of the coolest playgrounds one could ever imagine.

My wife and I, along with our 18 month old daughter, Scout, were so excited to get on the road and take a quick 3 hour trip to Santa Barbara. After stopping at a motel in Ventura the previous night, we woke early and headed to the Castle Playground at Alameda Park before making our way to the tiny Dutch town of Solvang.
This trip was super important to us, as we had not traveled or done much at all in recent months. Our 18 month old daughter has currently been undergoing cancer treatment for stage 4 germ cell cancer for nearly 3 months now. Having her around other kids with a compromised immune system hasn’t been much of an option, so visiting parks has been rather difficult lately. As Scout’s blood counts currently look good we decided on Santa Barbara as a destination, as we figured 3 hours was as far as we were willing to travel in case something were to happen and we were to have to get Scout to a hospital.
Scout’s Story and Day at Alameda Park
Truthfully, this trip could not have gone any better. We arrived early to an empty playground at Kids World in Alameda Park. Scout’s energy levels were insanely high and her huge smile never left her face as she circled the castle structure. Scout had a blast and I think I had almost as much fun navigating this incredible wooden castle playground. This is truly a special place.

As the morning went on, more people started to arrive and we decided it was time to leave to keep Scout safe from getting sick. Our next stop would be Solvang but we will never forget this morning at Alameda Park.
