Overview

Gladstone Park, located in the city of Glendora, is a spacious, lively park with a lighted basketball court, volleyball court and two different areas of the park with exceptional playgrounds. While the park is lacking of lawn space, it does have barbecues and picnic areas and a walking path around the park. As visitors walk from the parking lot to the playground they will be greeted by a concrete lion structure that appears to have been a water fountain at one point.

The main thing that sticks out about Gladstone Park and makes it so special, is the pirate ship playground. It will undoubtedly be the first thing that visitors see upon entering the park. All eyes will immediately gravitate towards it. While it is absolutely not meant for toddlers, there is another playground at the top of the park that is a great play structure for younger kids. Lastly, in between the two playgrounds, just across the bridge is an incredible pirate mural on a large retaining block wall, that can also double as a handball wall.

Scout’s Story

Our daughter, Scout, was now almost exactly 1 month outside of completing her most recent cycle of chemotherapy. Scout at the young age of 18 months old, has been battling stage 4 cancer (Germ Cell Neoplasm) for over 3 months now Scout has come a long way in these past few months and we are very hopeful that she will prevail in this battle. We are currently at a stand still in Scout’s treatment as we await P.E.T scans that have been a little tough to get accomplished so far. However, her blood counts have slowly climbed, and we felt comfortable enough on this day to head outside and to visit a few parks, while still doing our best to keep her safe and as isolated from others as possible.

After spending the entire afternoon outside with Scout, we finished up the day with an outing to Gladstone Park. As soon as we arrived, Scout spotted the Lion and ran over to check him out. After touching and waving at the Lion statue, Scout made her way over to the pirate ship, but that didn’t last very long at all, as her skill level at 18 months old just wasn’t advanced enough yet. After swinging for a bit, we made our way across the bridge to the pirate mural. The mural is incredibly well done and Scout kept touching the treasure chest as if she thought it was real.

Lastly, we made our way to the upper playground where Scout would run across the walkways and go up and down the slide until the sun was setting and it was finally time for us to head home.
