Overview

Eisenhower Park is a small, fenced playground structure, located directly next to the pier at Seal Beach. While this is by no stretch of the imagination, a fantastic playground, a few things do make it worth a visit. While the playground is small, it does have swings, a small play structure and 2 cool concrete seal structures that younger kids will have a good time climbing on and playing with. The biggest upside of the playground is its close proximity to the beach. Parents can let their kids play as long as they would like here, before heading down to the ocean for some beach time. While street parking is free, it can be hard to come by. The only other option for parking is the paid lots beneath the pier.

Scout’s Story

It’s hard to believe, but it has now been almost four months since our daughter, Scout, had her tumor resection surgery and subsequently, that her cancer was placed into remission. While we are incredibly grateful to have reached this juncture, we have realized that our lives will never return to what they were. That fear of this horrible disease will always be with us and it’s a daily struggle to minimize those stresses.

Scout is doing great and her only current treatments are blood draws every two months and scans every 6 months to monitor the small portion of the tumor (mature teratoma) that had to be left in her rectum. No more chemotherapy, or daily injections or line flushing as Scout’s central line has now been removed as well. With no central line, Scout can now play in the sand and get in the water as much as she pleases. Today would be another opportunity that we would take to get her out to the beach and in to the water to enjoy something that had vanished from our lives for the past year.

Scout’s day at Seal Beach

What better way to spend the day for a two year old than to hit the beach with a playground directly behind it. Eisenhower Park at Seal Beach is perfectly situated next to the Seal Beach Pier and the ocean. The playground is rather small but is great for toddlers and the little Seal sculptures add a great beach themed feel to the playground. After arriving we let Scout swing for what seemed like forever. Being that it was August, it was extremely hot out and the playground equipment followed suit. We decided to wrap up our time on the playground and make the quick walk down to the beach.

This ended up being such a great day. My wife and I were once again reminded of how much Scout loves the ocean. She didn’t miss a beat at all and begged for her mom to throw her into the water, time and time again.

Being in the water has been such a huge part of Scout’s life since she was barely 6 weeks old and it is so great to be able to so easily reintroduce her to it. As Scout’s little lips began to shiver from being cold, she still refused to leave the ocean. Finally, she reluctantly allowed us to get a towel around her and head for the pier.

This day was just another example of the moments and times that our family will forever be grateful for.
