Overview
Del Norte Park is a spacious park with a U.S.A. rocket ship theme to it, that kids will have a blast using their imaginations on. Located in the city of West Covina, this park also boasts a popular seasonal splash pad. In addition, there is a substantial amount of lawn area with trees providing plenty of shade and picnic shelters with picnic tables spread throughout the park. A gated dog park is located adjacent to the playground with two separate areas. One being for leashed dogs and the other for dogs off leash.
The playground has a play structure suited for toddlers as well as a structure for 5-12 year old kids. One of my only gripes about the playground is that when I have visited the mulch surface is almost gone and the netting underneath is coming up, creating a bit of a tripping hazard for younger kids. Overall this is a great family park where the family and dogs can spend a few enjoyable hours.

Scout’s Story
My wife, our daughter Scout and I decided to spend the early morning exploring a few playgrounds around the West Covina area. After a fun packed morning, my daughter, Scout, who was now 18 months old, decided it was time for a nap. As I have shared many times, Scout has been battling stage 4 cancer since she turned 15 months old. One of our big hurdles at the moment was awaiting a phone call to get her into Children’s Hospital for Imaging on her tumors. Without the imaging we would have no direction on the treatment process heading further, and were currently at a bit of a stand still.
I took the time while Scout was napping to make some phone calls and to push to expedite the process of getting her scans. I walked around the park, processing everything we were dealing with, while also thinking about how lucky I was to be making all these memories with her. This was the one park on the day we didn’t spend a lot of time playing at. When Scout woke up she was hungry and we went to grab some food before heading to a few other spots to play on the drive home. While the majority of our time here was spent with Scout sleeping, this is a park we will assuredly revisit. The amazing thing about all these places that we are so fortunate to visit, is the memories that they will forever leave ingrained in our minds from this current journey we are on.
