Overview
Brio Park is a very small park, with less than one acre in space, and is located in the city of La Habra. The park features a small grassy area as well as a small playground with equipment that is about as standard as it comes. However, Brio Park has a few things that really set it apart and make it a must visit. The show stopper here is the fabulous splash pad that operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The splash pad is train themed and is rather large in size as far as splash pads are concerned.
The hours of operation are every day from 11 AM-6 PM during the summer season. Although the cities website says that the splash pad opens at 11 AM, I have seen them open the gates and turn the water on as early as 9:30 AM. From open to close, the splash pad can get extremely busy, but kids will have a blast here. The other huge upside to this park is that the incredible La Habra Children’s Museum is located directly across the street, making for a great stop before or after hitting the splash pad. Additionally, visitors with train loving kids should be sure to check out the historic trains directly across the street at Portola Park, outside of the Children’s Museum.

Scouts Story
In spite of Brio Park being a short drive from our house, it’s a park that we just haven’t visited much in the past. On this day, we excitedly woke up, eagerly awaiting a visit to the La Habra Children’s Museum with plans to visit the splash pad at Brio Park afterwards. We had been to the park a few weeks prior but our daughter Scout (now 2 years old) still had her central line in her chest and couldn’t get wet. Knowing that her central line would be being removed shortly, we made a plan to come back in a few weeks.
After battling stage 4 cancer for the past 9 months and enduring multiple rounds of chemotherapy, culminating in an almost ten hour surgery to remove tumors in her liver and rectum, Scout’s cancer was placed in remission on May 8th, the day after her second birthday. Over a month later on June 13th, her central line would be removed and Scout would be able to play in water once again.
We arrived at the splash pad and since the weather wasn’t too hot, the splash pad wasn’t as crowded as usual. Scout ran towards the water like she had never been away from it. After almost one year without our baby being able to swim or play in the water, finally, we were taking one small step towards getting Scout back to doing normal kid things. This was yet another day I won’t soon forget. Scout played and played, even as she began to shiver. Eventually, we wrapped her in her towel and headed for home, looking forward to many more water days to come in the future.

Notes
The city of La Habra operates two splash pads. Brio park being one with its train theme due to its proximity to the historic train depot and Oeste Park being the other, with its rocket ship themed splash pad, keeping with the old space theme of the park. Oeste park and splash pad is less than five minutes from Brio Park.

Getting to Brio Park
Although there is street parking around the actual splash pad and playground, it is often full, especially during the hot, busy summer months. The best bet is to park across the street in the big parking lot adjacent to the child development center and then walk across the street to the park.
