Overview
Located in the back of a beautiful neighborhood in Yorba LInda, Box Canyon was originally built in 1997. The park was destroyed after wildfires ravaged the area in 2008. Subsequently the park was rebuilt and turned into the amazing park that we see today.
The playgrounds consist of two separate, fully accessible play areas that make for great imaginative play for kids. The smaller playground boasts a pirate ship while the larger playground adjacent to it is a castle. Kids will be able to run and play here for hours. For those wanting to get out of the sun, a covered picnic shelter sits directly in between both playgrounds in perfect view of all of the play areas. In addition, a full basketball court and two roll out pickle ball nets are available behind the playground area. Beautiful views of the mountains present themselves from every angle of the park. Meanwhile, a .4 mile paved path circles the park with lots of nice, flat, grassy lawn area encircling it.

Scout’s Story
Box Canyon is yet another park that holds a special place in my heart. The incredible thing about being able to visit all of these different places with our daughter is undoubtedly the life long memories it has created. Although we had recently been unable to take our daughter to any public places, Box Canyon would become the first we had visited in months. On this day of October 6th, 2022, my wife and I would be taking my daughter, Scout, to Kaiser Permanente in Anaheim to continue her cancer treatment. Having finished her second round of a four round cycle of chemo the week before and with her counts looking good we decided we would try to take her to a playground to play before our scheduled appointment at the cancer clinic.
We arrived around 9 AM, and although there were a few other kids at the playground, it was relatively quiet at the park. Due to Scout’s immune system being compromised, Scout has been unable to do normal kid things for some time. Something as simple as getting our little girl back out to the park has become such an emotional and monumental moment for us. As soon as we got out of the car and Scout finally saw the playground, she ran as fast as her little legs would take her and her face lit up with the smile that we have become so accustomed to seeing. Scout ran around and played for almost an hour and got to do her favorite thing for the first time in months, which is swinging in the baby swings.
Being able to bring a little normalcy to our baby and to get to see her back doing normal kid things brought her mom and I so much joy and overwhelmed us with emotions. Something so simple that I once took for granted was something that I knew I would now always be sure to cherish.
