Scout’s Story
My wife, myself and our daughter, Scout, decided to take a quick, multi day trip to the fabulous and fun pack city of Santa Barbara as well as the cute Dutch town of Solvang. We were excited to get out of town and enjoy these few days. Scout had finished up her most recent cycle of chemotherapy and her blood counts had reached a point that we were comfortable enough taking this 2 day trip. We would still be doing our best to visit places earlier in the morning and avoid crowds to limit Scout’s exposure to others. It’s hard to believe that not even three months have passed since Scout was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We are currently awaiting our next steps in her treatment but her spirit is incredible her energy levels have been surprisingly high.
After waking up early and managing to leave the house by 7 AM, we decided to stop at 2 playgrounds near the Thousand Oaks area on our way towards Ventura, which is where we would be staying on this night. The Thousands Oaks area presented us a great spot to get Scout out of the car and to let her run around and stretch her legs.
Scout’s Day at Borchard Community Park
After making a quick stop at the Thousand Oaks Community Park, we made our way towards Borchard Community Park. It was still fairly early in the morning and we were the only family at the playground. Scout ran around the playground, first checking out all the concrete farm animal structures, making sure to say hi, while hugging and kissing each one.
She seemed a bit intimidated by the size of the slide and instead made her way to the John Deere spring jumper tractor. This thing was super cool. Scout asked me to place her inside the front of the tractor and we bounced her as she giggled and smiled, for quite some time.
After getting her fill of bouncing on the tractor, Scout decided that she just wanted to run. She brought her leaves that she had been carrying with her and we made our way over to the extremely nice baseball diamond. We had such a great time chasing Scout around the field and just all smiling and laughing while enjoying the beautiful morning.
We had a fantastic morning here with Scout and made one last stop at the playground for Scout to swing before we headed out. The atmosphere here was so relaxing and we were so grateful to have been able to enjoy such a peaceful morning.
