Scout’s Story
As the summer was just getting started, we decided to take advantage of the unseasonably nice weather. The next day, our daughter, Scout, would be having yet another surgical procedure and we wanted to take her to enjoy this day before what we knew what be a tough next day for her. We had been waiting for a good day to visit the pirate tower in Laguna Beach. The low tide lined up with the early hours of the morning and we headed out for Victoria Beach in Laguna. My family absolutely loves Laguna and my wife and I decided that we would just make a day of hanging out here taking our daughter, Scout, to some parks after visiting the pirate tower.
After arriving at Bluebird Park, we made our way to the gated entrance and Scout took off inside. There are so many great, separate areas inside the park that kept Scout bouncing from one area to the next. Scout loved the mosaic turtle in the back of the park and spent a ton of time climbing on it.
She then made her way to the slides and again spent quite a while on them. The metal slide is amazing but not for younger kids. It is rather fast with a huge bump in the middle that sent Scout flying.
We spent a little more than an hour here (we easily could have spent more) and had an absolute blast. Bluebird Park is unquestionably our favorite park in the Laguna area.

Scout’s Journey
This was another special day for us. Just being able to be outside and enjoy these moments is beyond description. Exactly one month ago on May 8th, Scout’s cancer was declared in remission. Scout underwent a tumor resection surgery on her liver and rectum on April 24th. On May 5th we arrived home from the hospital and on May 7th Scout turned 2. The day after her birthday her cancer would be declared in remission. This journey from the onset of her stage 4 diagnosis almost a year ago has been such a life altering experience.
We know Scout’s battle isn’t quite over but we are also hopeful that Scout is nearing the tail end of this fight. In addition to all of the other good news, this was officially our last day of doing twice daily injections into Scouts leg. The following day Scout would be going into surgery to have her central line removed from her chest. This also meant no more daily flushing of her lines and that within a week she would be able to finally get back in the water and to get wet. So much has happened so fast, but we are excited to move forward and watch Scout grow without having to deal with this debilitating disease anymore.
