Overview
Fairmount Park in Riverside, Ca is a huge park with expansive grounds that give off a super naturistic vibe and include a lake. One of the highlights and focal points of the park is the carnival themed, Carousel Playground.

This playground is an all inclusive playground that was designed by Shane’s Inspiration who have done so many of the fabulous playgrounds here in California. The red and white color scheme fits in perfectly with the carnival themed and although it’s most suitable for kids 5 and up, there is a toddler area. The downside to this playground is that it is a bit run down and needs some upkeep. There also seems to be a fair amount of homeless people living here and using the play structures to sleep in at night. Unfortunately, the toddler play area wreaked of urine when we visited.

Scout’s Story
We have finally made it to the New Year and we are currently at a stand still in Scout’s cancer treatment. Scout’s blood levels currently look good but we have been having an issue with imaging on her tumors and moving forward with the next steps in her treatment. With her blood counts stable, we have been getting outside a little more but are still doing our best to keep her as isolated as possible while still trying to allow her to be a kid.
One of Scout’s favorite things lately has been trains. We decided to start the day by heading to Hunter Hobby Park to ride the miniature train before making our way to Carousel Playground at Fairmount Park. This park is beautiful but the playground ended up not being the best choice that we could have made, as it was packed (and usually is). Scout has a central line that runs to her heart and getting sick really isn’t an option for her right now, so we try to be as mindful of this and careful as possible. We ended up pretty much staying at one end of the carnival themed playground and watched as Scout slid up and down the slide for about 30 minutes.

The cool thing about Fairmount Park is that it is incredibly pretty with a lake and lots of big trees. We eventually decided to abandon the playground and to stroll around the expansive park. The playground could undoubtedly use some maintenance but overall it’s really nice and has an incredible design.
