Scout’s Story
With Christmas just around the corner my wife and I decided to take a small, two day trip, with our 2 year old daughter Scout to see the Christmas lights at the Mission Inn in Riverside. The following morning before heading home we decided to make a few stops to allow Scout to have some fun and Red Park was on our list.
We wanted to attempt to make this a special Christmas for Scout and our family. Last year Scout was battling stage 4 cancer and in active cancer treatment, meaning we were forced to keep ourselves and Scout away from others to prevent her from getting sick, since she didn’t have the ability to fight off sickness like a normal kid, due. Christmas was a little bit of an afterthought, as we mostly spent it by ourselves and pushed forward in Scout’s treatment. This year, the holiday season has a bit of a different feel to it. Scout’s cancer has now been in remission for 6 months and she is free to resume being a normal kid.
We enjoyed a great evening walking around downtown Riverside and enjoying the Christmas lights at the Mission Inn. The following morning we woke up at our motel and made our way to a few stops before ending the morning at Red Park.
Scout’s Day at Red Park
Red Park was such a cute and fun park. The weather was a little brisk but we couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. We bundled Scout up in her small jacket and then watched as she played at the small, barn themed playground with a few other smaller kids stopping to play with her.
After a bit, Scout made her way to the massive lawn area and we spent the rest of our time at Red Park chasing her around the grounds. The views of the surrounding mountains were so beautiful and the abundance of blooming sycamore trees made for great scenery.
Scout giggled and laughed as she begged for us to run after her, time and time again. We had such a fantastic morning at Red Park and all of our stresses seemed to temporarily melt away in the peacefulness of this park. This is undoubtedly a park that our family would spend more time at if we lived closer by. Nonetheless, we were grateful for this morning and for these memories.
