Scout’s Story
Our daughter, Scout, was now almost exactly 1 month outside of completing her most recent cycle of chemotherapy. Scout, at the young age of 18 months old, has been battling stage 4 cancer (Germ Cell Neoplasm) for over 3 months now. Scout has come a long way in these past few months and we are very hopeful that she will prevail in this fight. We are currently at a stand still in Scout’s treatment, as we await P.E.T scans that have been a little tough to get accomplished so far. However, her blood counts have slowly climbed, and we felt comfortable enough on this day to head outside and to visit a few parks, while still doing our best to keep her isolated from others. Our day would start with a very early morning trip to Smith Park in Pico Rivera.
As we arrived at Smith Park, we were excited to let Scout play and were happy to see that the park was nearly empty. We started by letting Scout run around the 5-12 years old playground. Being that Scout is only 18 months old, the playground was just too advanced for her. Although Scout loves slides, the slides here are so massive and Scout just isn’t ready for something this big yet. However, she loved running back and forth on the ramps and walkways. Eventually, we made our way to the toddler playground and let Scout swing. Her favorite thing ended up being climbing on and touching the concrete animal and leaf sculptures.
We had a great morning watching Scout play at Smith Park and our day would only get better as it went along.
