Overview
Tehachapi Park is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood in the city of Corona. While small, at just under 3 acres, this park is incredibly inviting and a great place to spend a few hours. In previous years, the city of Corona has done a great job of upgrading playgrounds in parks such as Mountain Gate Park, Cresta Verde Park and Tehachapi Park, while allowing the local community to chime in and offer suggestions on what they would like to see in their new playgrounds. In March of 2022, the playground in Tehachapi Park was finally reopened to the joy of local residents.
The playground pays tribute to Corona’s historic, Grand Circle Raceway, with a nicely constructed racetrack theme. While the fancy new racetrack playground now serves as the centerpiece of the park, visitors will also enjoy basketball courts, as well as picnic areas that are great for family gatherings. Tehachapi park is a beautiful, friendly and relaxing park, that all families are sure to love.

Scout’s Story
Recently, my wife and I had decided to take an impromptu trip to Big Bear Lake, to spend a few important days with our daughter, Scout. To break up the over 2 hour drive, we decided to stop in the awesome city of Corona to let Scout play. We have been to Corona tons of times and absolutely enjoy visiting this city. With its plethora of great playgrounds, it was a no brainer for us to stop here on the way to Big Bear. This small trip and these few days, were immensely important to my wife and I. Our main goal would be to take these days to really focus on our daughter Scout and to have a special time.
After almost nine months of treatment and multiple cycles of chemotherapy, Scout was finally approved for tumor resection surgery on April 24, 2023. After more than 8 hours of surgery to remove the right half of her liver and the tumor in her pelvic area, Scout’s cancer would be placed into remission a few weeks later on May 8th, one day after her second birthday. A month later, Scout’s central line would be removed as well. Our family is currently transitioning back into normal life, as Scout’s Oncology team monitors her progress with visits every 2 months. This trip was a big step for us in getting back to doing the things that were once so commonplace to us but had become a rarity since Scout’s diagnosis.
Scout’s Day at Tehachapi Park
Our third stop of the morning before heading to Big Bear, would be Tehachapi Park. The one thing that I didn’t take into account was how hot it was going to be on this day. As the temperature slowly crept towards the mid to high 90’s, we arrived at Tehachapi Park. The park, almost surely due to the heat, was completely desolate. We made our way over to the playground and watched as Scout navigated her way around it. The playground is better suited for kids 5 and up but at just over 2 years old Scout did a great job of maneuvering her way around. Scout made her way to the tunnel slides and begged her mom and I to race down beside her. Just as we would count down and go, Scout would trick us and laugh as she stayed sitting at the top.
Morning was now becoming afternoon and the heat of the day was intensifying. The playground structures were becoming increasingly hot and we decided it was time to move towards Big Bear, where it would be much cooler. As we picked Scout up to leave, she had a toddler meltdown as we tried to explain to her why we were leaving. Parenting a toddler can be such a tough thing and the toddler age is a very tough phase. We were happy to have visited three separate, amazing playgrounds in Corona on this morning and were now growing in excitement as we would soon be arriving in Big Bear for a few fun packed days.
