Overview

Colorado Lagoon is an almost 30 acre lagoon wetland area located in Long Beach. The park features nice sandy beach areas and a dock area that stretches to the other side of the lagoon, that visitors accordingly enjoy swimming from in the summer. In addition, the park also boasts a Marine Education Science Center and model boat shop (open during summer only). The playground is not the main attraction here, however, there is a small, nice (but very basic) one just above the beach area.

The wetlands backing the lagoon are very scenic and a lot of wildlife can be spotted here. Colorado Lagoon is a great spot to spend the day and is typically a lot less crowded than the insanely popular and nearby Mother’s Beach.

  • Dogs are allowed but must be leashed and kept in control at all times
  • Lagoon with a boardwalk you can swim off of and beach area
  • Wetland and Marine Science Education Center on site
  • Model boat shop (open summer only)
  • Picnic Shelters and picnic tables

My Story

My wife and I have been coming to Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach for quite a while now. It is usually pretty relaxing and never seems to be too crowded. While we enjoy Mother’s Beach (located 1 mile down the road), it tends to get insanely crowded and Colorado Lagoon fits us a little better. We recently brought my daughter, Scout, here for the first time a month after her first birthday. Scout had a great time running around the beach area and getting her feet wet as we chased her around.

While the playground is small, it was perfect for my daughter to play on for a bit. My only gripe is that there are no swings (which is Scouts favorite thing to do). This is a great park to come and relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding wetlands.
