Overview

In my personal opinion, many of the best park oriented cities in California are located in Northern California, however, I would put the city of Irvine as possibly the best park oriented city in all of California. There are just so many to choose from and they are all different and unique and each offers its own personal charm. Plaza park is no exception and is yet another example of the plethora of parks that the city of Irvine has to offer up.

While not very big, the park is incredibly inviting. The orange and green color scheme of the playgrounds really make the park pop and stand out. In addition, the farming theme brings a uniqueness that really makes the playground feel one of a kind. For those looking for other things to do as well, look no further. You are in Irvine and at every turn is another great spot to visit or activity to take part in.

Scout’s Story

It’s hard to believe that two months have passed since our daughter, Scout, underwent a 10 hour surgery to remove cancerous tumors in her liver and pelvis. After almost a year of treatment, Scout was finally given the opportunity to have surgery to remove the tumors and take the next steps in her process of fighting cancer. Two weeks after her surgery we arrived back home and Scout would turn 2 the following day. The day after her birthday, on May 8th, we would drive to the cancer clinic and be informed that Scout’s cancer was being placed into remission and that there was no current malignancy in her body.

The past two months have been filled with joy as well as a lot of uncertainty. We have finally reached the position in Scout’s battle that we have so longed for. Our two main goals have been getting Scout to the point where she would be a candidate for surgery and then ultimately getting her into remission. What I didn’t expect was the stress that would still loom even after we had reached our goals. This horrible disease is unfortunately just now part of us and always will be.

While we push forward towards regaining some normalcy, our main objective in life now is to have Scout live a normal, healthy life, with hopefully no long term side effects from chemo and limiting our thoughts of this disease ever returning. Scout has endured things that very few will ever know, but my wife and I are so proud of her and are so grateful that Scout has reached a point in her battle that so many other kids unfortunately will not. Our days will forever be filled with love and joy as we cherish every moment that we have with Scout.

Scout’s Day at Plaza Park

Today would be another fun filled day for my wife, Scout and I. We would be doing what has become one of our family’s favorite things to do. Packing up the car and heading to Irvine to spend the day at a few of their many great parks. After spending the morning at the phenomenal Adventure Playground, we made our way to Plaza Park. This park is super adorable and Scout had an absolute blast running around. Her favorite thing by far, was climbing in and out of and on top of the concrete tractor structure. She was giving me a bit of anxiety as I was expecting for her to fall but she did well negotiating her way around.

As Scout went back and forth from the swings to the playground, I couldn’t help but realize how much her motor skills have grown recently. She is getting so big now and barely needs my help on most of the playground equipment anymore. As I sit back and watch Scout play and witness the joy and happiness that exudes from her, it is hard for me to fathom how this is possible with everything that she has been through. Some people are beyond special and Scout is one of those. It boggles my mind that my hero and that someone I look up to so much is a two year old.
