Siphon Hot Springs near Mammoth Lakes, CA

Location: Mammoth Lakes, California

Overview

When deciding which hot springs to explore in the Mammoth Lakes area, there are plenty of options. Siphon Hot Springs is one such option, but what sets it apart from the other hot springs in the area is its remoteness and lack of crowds that some of the other hot springs are known for. Chances are that you will still have company here, but it should be a little quieter than other places.

Siphon Hot Springs in Mammoth Lakes, CA

The reason for this is that the road to the springs is a bit further than the other hot springs and it can take a while to navigate due to its bumpiness and rutted road. While most vehicles can make it down this road, it’s ideal to have something other than a sedan. The road is often impassable in the winter as well and after heavy storms.

Siphon hot springs itself fit about 6-8 people and has a nice wooden bench to sit on just outside of the rock tub.

While there used to be a handle to control the temperature, there was not one when I visited and the tub was around 115 degrees and extremely hot to enter. While the backdrop is not as scenic or stunning as some of the other nearby hot springs, it is still a beautiful area with an extremely nice rock tub.

I spent about 20 minutes soaking here and thoroughly enjoyed it, but ultimately I had to exit due to the extreme temperature of the water. The area is gorgeous though and for those looking for some solitude, this tub might be your best bet of the bunch in the area.
