Overview
Located in the Chinatown area of downtown San Francisco, Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Playground is a fabulous play area for kids. The playground is based off of Chinese mythology and features a Phoenix and Dragon structure as the focal points.

Additionally, a dragon tower stands in the middle of the playground with a super fast metal slide and rock climbing holds to help kids reach the top of the slide. This Park is a ton of fun and very nicely designed to fit in with the surroundings of its community. The only drawback is the parking situation can be a little frustrating, as there is only street parking and it is limited.
Features
- Dragon tower with tunnel slide and climbing net

- Toddler play area with double slide and merry-go-round
Other Amenities
- Tennis courts and basketball court
Scout’s Story and Day at Willie Wong Playground
This was our second day of our four day trip to the Bay Area. There was a light drizzle in the air and we decided to start our morning by taking our 14 month old daughter, Scout, to the Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Playground in the Chinatown area. Scout had been acting a little funny the previous day and was very lethargic and disconnected at times. We weren’t sure what this day would bring but when we arrived at the playground, Scout ran everywhere and seemed to be in a lot better spirits. Mom and I followed as Scout’s little legs navigated the Chinese themed playground. Her favorite area seemed to be the Dragon structure that she climbed in and out of time and time again.

After we finished at the playground, we made our way up the steps and to the tennis courts where we ran with Scout, acting as though we were all airplanes. This was a great morning for our family but represented the roller coaster of a trip this was as Scout’s behaviors would go from energetic and happy to lethargic and not interested, depending on the day and time.
Scout’s Journey
As we arrived home a few days later, my wife took Scout to the ER numerous times, before we finally got an answer to Scout’s odd behavior. On August 18th, 2022, at the age of 15 months old, Scout was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Her journey in her fight against cancer would begin that day.
It’s hard looking back at this trip and realizing I had no idea what was going on inside of Scout. It makes me feel horrible thinking about how I had her out running around and playing, knowing that she must have been in so much discomfort but had no way to use her words to let us know that something was wrong. We truly had a great time on this trip but it’s hard to look back on now knowing that something was terribly wrong and we didn’t know it. With positive thoughts, we look forward to the day that we can revisit the Bay Area and make fresh memories.
